Trizivir, Combination Drugs For HIV

Trizivir is a combination of oral drugs used to treat infections of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Trizivir contains abacavir (Ziagen), lamivudine (Epivir) and AZT (Retrovir), which is three anti-HIV drugs with different mechanisms of action are also different. The recommended dose for adults is one tablet two times daily.

Side Effects

Trizivir cause side effects like drug components, ie abacavir, lamivudine, and zidovudine. The most common side effects include:

Patients should discontinue Trizivir if hypersensitivity reaction is suspected. Patients who carry a specific genetic marker called HLA-B 5701 are at high risk for experiencing a hypersensitivity reaction to abacavir. Screening for HLA-B 5701 allele is recommended prior to initiating therapy with abacavir.
